It was Johnny’s first time at the big pool. His mom promised she would take him when got older now here he was about to take his first swim lesson.
For Johnny loved the water. He spent many summers at Grandma’s house swimming in her pool. She always encouraged him to splash around. As long as he had his life jacket gear on, he was fine. Today was different.
This time Johnny was at the big pool with the big kids. The swim instructors were standing by waiting to help him but Johnny was scared. “I don’t want to swim.” he said.
“It will be alright.” Johnny’s mom said. She was right there holding his hand. “Don’t be frightened. I’ll be right here with you.”
The water was cold as Johnny dipped his toes into the swirling waters.
The other kids seemed to be having a lot of fun. Laughing and splashing around, they were enjoying themselves. Johnny looked over to his mom. She smiled and her eyes danced. Johnny loved his mama. He wanted her to be proud of him.
“OK, Mom. I’m ready.” Johnny was going to learn how to swim today.
The instructor lifted Johnny into the pool. With swim gear on, Johnny splashed around the waters just like he did at Grandma’s house. There was excitement and praises when he started to move his arms around. Mom couldn’t be more proud of her little boy.
Johnny had so much fun on his first day at the big pool.
On their way home, Johnny asked his mom. “When do we go back, Mommy? I can’t wait until I learn to swim again.”
It was the end of a good day. It was a very good day.
